I do feel I got a small taste of the capital city of Nicaragua and a bigger taste of class differences and class prerogatives. She shows quite well how the military junta men are shunned by the [traditional] elite. I wish for the judgment of a native Spanish speaker about all the many phrases in the book that sound to me like they are literal translations from English.
Maybe they are really all perfectly good, current Central American Spanish. I like the premise of this novel.
The Inhabited Woman
There’s a woman who is reincarnated through a tree. She takes possession of another woman, for lack of a better word, by producing oranges. The other woman makes orange juice, and the two women, from different epochs, classes, etc I’m just not sure that, once all of this gets blended with a bit of subtle eroticism, and some vague plots for political revolution, that everything hangs together quite right.
Read this in Spanish! I am had a hard time getting into this book. To me the translation is stilted and it reminds me of a movie in which the acting is bad.
I also am not interested in the heroine so maybe it’s just not for me. After a bit, I just didn’t want to try anymore.
